This report provides the Monadnock Research analysis of management and IT consulting and advisory services rates from a series of comprehensive studies of negotiated client rates from organizations in healthcare, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, financial services, retail, energy, metals & mining, high tech, communications, electronics, transportation and public services.

The analysis presented in the following sections profiles rates across 15 client organizations that included 93 firms and 157 rate structures. Rates have been analyzed and are presented here across the following consulting practice areas:

  1. Strategy Consulting
  2. Operations Consulting
  3. HR Consulting
  4. IT Consulting
  5. Financial, Transaction and Risk Advisory Services (Big Four)

Rates are presented within each category in the context that is most relevant to the practice area. In strategy, for example, rates are presented as both hourly and weekly rates, since many strategy specialists do not use hourly rate structures. That section contains a description of why strategy consulting specialists often employ weekly rates.

Each practice area contains a "Rates by Category of Professional" section providing detail on rates for each of the 15 professional categories (fewer in some cases) for which strategy consulting rates were analyzed. Within each of the 15 sections, descriptive statistics are provided, including the mean, median, mode, standard deviation, sample variance, kurtosis, range, minimum, maximum, and the number of rate structures analyzed for that category of professional. Each labor area also contains a detailed percentile analysis of rates for the category.

The practice area sections for strategy and operations consulting also contain a break-out of rates by the primary specialty of the firm providing services. For example, the operations consulting section breaks out the rates for firms that are operations specialists, as well as for firms that are best known for their work in strategy, information technology consulting and HR services.

There is also a chapter that provides guidance for the financial, transaction and risk advisory services of the Big Four firms. This section includes rates by category of professional for 12 consulting and advisory practice areas of Big Four firms.

The "Professional Qualifications by Consulting Labor Category" section contains information on the Monadnock Research consulting labor categories for which rates have been reported and analyzed throughout our reports.
